The Days I Long for the Bathhouse
The Days I Long for the Bathhouse
The Korean public bath house, known as mogyoktang, has served as a cherished source of comfort, bonding, and a safe haven where Korean women could come together, unwind, and embrace self-care rituals. The bath house holds countless fond memories, particularly during the summer months, as generations of the women in my family have relished in the shared experience of steaming saunas, invigorating body scrubs, and soothing baths. From my grandmothers, aunties, cousins, mother and sister, the bath house has become a beloved summertime tradition, forging sacred spaces and memories.
